Obituary

Adine Atkins Pennington, better known as Tootsie, departed from this life on January 19, 2022 at her residence. Born February 21, 1946 in Lamar County, she was a lifelong resident of Millport, Alabama and lived a simple life. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home Chapel in Millport, Alabama. Graveside service and visitation will follow in Millport City Cemetery. Bro. Roger Lucas and Bro. Luke Bozeman officiating. Pallbearers are Greg Fields, Keith Fields, Holden Fields, Jake Leonard, Brad Crowley, and Tylan Hardin. Honorary pallbearers: Staff and Nurses from Fayette Home Health, Dr. Ariel Anguiano, Dr. James Evans and the employees of Fayette Outpatient/Oncology Clinic, and Hospice of West Alabama.

After many years of working at Millport Manufacturing, Tootsie retired to be a full time nana and homemaker. Not too many years later began her fight against cancer. It was a battle she fought and defeated for almost 20 years. In 2014, the fight began again. Tootsie faced each battle with courage, grace, and a smile on her face, never complaining. Many would say cancer won, but it did not! She received her ultimate healing when she left this earth.

Tootsie loved to laugh, never met a stranger and was a friend to all. She made the best sweet tea and cornbread and gave the best hugs. If you visited her house, you were treated like family. As a member of Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church, she was a member of the choir and taught the Senior Ladies Sunday School class for many years. Always willing to help, she lent her carpentry skills to help with the church parsonage as it was being remodeled. Carpentry was not her calling. The family and a select few church members would be willing to share the humorous story. She loved her family and friends and would do anything for them. She was the best mama, nana, sister, cousin, and friend leaving many precious memories to cherish. If you ever met her, you know. A little of her will live on in her children and grandchildren, and she will be forever missed.

Tootsie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Grover and Linnia Virginia Fields Atkins; Husband, Robert C. Pennington; Brothers, James Floyd Atkins, Sr., William Smith Atkins, James Hanford "Hamp" Fields, William Ellis "Billy" Atkins, Bobby Ray Atkins, Doyle Mason "PeeWee" Atkins; Sister, Marguerite Atkins Brown; Grandson, Jeb Davis "JD" Richards.
