November 2, 1939 – January 10, 2022
Billy Hayes Maughan, 82, of Reform, AL, passed away at his residence on January, 10, 2022. There will be a graveside service on January 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Maughan family cemetery at his home in Reform, Al, at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Gene Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Alabama.
Mr. Maughan was born on November 2, 1939 to L.C. and Alice Virginia (Burkhalter) Maughan in Gordo, Alabama. He was saved at Salem Church in Gordo. In his youth, he enjoyed running the hills of Bostick with his brothers Murry and Joe, while his sisters Peggy and Polly tried to keep up with them. He also loved hunting back then with his dog, Brownie. He and his wife spent many weekends on the banks of the river fishing. Billy loved spending time with his grandboys, who were the lights of his life. They loved camping and spending vacations in the Smoky Mountains. He is now with his grandson Will and his buddy Truman, they are fishing together again.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, a daughter Jureda Sprouse (Steven), a son, Mark Maughan (Sondra), sisters Peggy Skelton (Hayes) and Polly Watts (Jack) and two grandchildren, Evan Britt and Jacob Maughan. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Murray Maughan and Joe Maughan, grandson Mark (Will) William Maughan.
Pallbearers are Chris Skelton, John Yarbrough, Alvin Holman, John Rice, Jackson Hall and Hudson Hall. Honorary Pallbearers are Southern Care Hospice, Nurse Jordan and Cartina and Brother Don.
A heartfelt thanks to his special added grandkids who visited him often and could always make him smile, the neighbors and family who were always there, those that prayed, brought food or offered to sit with him during his journey with dementia.
