Brenda Sue Peeks “MaMaw”
To be away from the body is to be at home with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:8
MILLPORT, AL - It is with broken hearts that we tell you our mother Brenda Sue Peeks departed this life on Monday, April 27, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family and her loving pet Roscoe.
She was born on June 28, 1950, to the late George and Edith Wharton. She worked many years cleaning houses around Lamar County. Before she was too sick to go, she loved attending services at Springfield Free Will Baptist Church in Vernon and listening to her favorite preacher Gary Seay.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Brenda Lynn Wharton, and her grandson, Nicholas Wallace Peeks.
She is survived by her loving husband Jerry Peeks, Millport, AL, daughters Paula (Jd) Bryant, of Vernon, AL, and BJ (Dillon) McDaniel, of Kennedy, AL. She is also survived by her son Kevin (Brandi) Van Sickle of Rowlett, Texas. Her grandchildren, whom she loved and was so proud of, Danny (Savannah) Hulon, Millport, AL., Megan (Kelsie) Bryant, Vernon, AL., Jerry Savage, and Elisha Hulon of Millport, AL., and Victoria Lynn (Tyler) Wilkins, of Harvest, AL, Matthew McDaniel, Kennedy, AL. and James and Jaxon Van Sickle, of Rowlett, Texas. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Hunter and Harper Stockman, of Vernon, AL., Rileigh, Browning, and Emily Hulon, Waylann, Gracie and Izzy all of Millport, AL and Easton Kirkman, Vernon, AL. Brenda was the baby of her 3 siblings, the late Peggy Perrigin (Gene), the late George (Betty) Wharton, and her brother Johnny Wharton of Aliceville, AL. She is so lovingly survived by her favorite nieces Tammy Shaw (Danny), of Reform, AL., Lisa (Whodo) Maxey, Donna Kay Langford (Mike), and Becky Bell, all of Ethelsville, AL. Her nephews, Brian (Cricket) Wharton of (Ethelsville), and Robbie (Candace) Wharton of Cottondale, AL. Special friend Steve Pierce who she loved dearly.
Brenda survived lung cancer twice, once through chemo and radiation and the second time with just radiation. She survived those treatments, always wanting to go shopping after each treatment. Mama loved to spend Daddy’s money. Our mama was best known as MaMaw to everybody. I don’t care who you were if you met her for the first time, she was just your MaMaw from then on. She loved to watch Alabama Football, she had to have her Dr Pepper, she loved to go fishing, cook, clean, and if you dare got up at 2am in mamas house and changed your shirt and it hit the floor, she heard it, it was in the washing machine by 2:01am. Mama loved her family, and one of the most important things to her was always celebrating every occasion and holiday with a family dinner or a fish fry, and she always made sure our holidays were special and that we had plenty, and we mean plenty of food. She would always go above and beyond with the cooking, but she loved all of her family under her roof; that was her favorite thing. Her husband, Jerry, can rest assured that he took care of his wife and made sure she was never alone and always had what she needed, and she knew without a doubt that he loved her, as she did him. Mama is also survived by her loving dog Roscoe, who never left her side; he will most definitely be lost without her. Her daughters Paula and BJ, “we know our mama loved us, and cared deeply for us. Mama, you can rest easy, we will take it from here. We love you mama.”” She loved her family dearly, and they loved her in return. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she was deeply loved by all who knew her. We, the family, would also like to extend a special thank you to Access Hospice, Nurse Kelsey Brooks, Ms. Penny, and Connie. Caregivers Sarah White, Gail, Johnson, Elisha Hulon, and Maddy Thompson, Mama loved you all.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2nd Timothy 4:7)
Pallbearers will be Danny “Bubba” Hulon, Jerry Savage, JD Bryant, Dillon McDaniel, Hunter Stockman, and David Peeks.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tyler Wilkins, Talbert Honnoll, Brad Dison, Access Hospice nurses.
There will be a funeral service on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Seay officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Millport, Alabama.
