Charlene Hollinger, 94, formally of Millport, Alabama, passed away on September 6, 2022 in Northport, Alabama. Visitation will be Thursday evening, September 8, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Alabama. Funeral services will be Friday, September 9, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Dockery officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Paynes Chapel Cemetery in Millport, AL.

Charlene was born August 12, 1928 to David Andrew Davis and Rosell Johnson Davis. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and fed children in the Kennedy High School and then South Lamar School cafeterias for a total of 23 years. She loved to fish and cooking was her passion, especially her rolls and Mexican cornbread and she wanted everyone involved. She loved everyone and lots of people called her "Mother" or "Mama".

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Johnny Hollinger, a brother, Johnny Davis and 4 sisters, Alberta Johnson, Mavelene Crowley, Dorothy Wright and Sidney Earl Sullivan.

She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Stripling (Dennis), a brother, Eugene Davis (Betty Sue) and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Benny Abrams, Scott Sullivan, Steve Wright, Mike Hildreth, Johnny Madison and Joe Elliott. Honorary Pallbearers are Danny Crowley, J.B Moore, Erma Patchen, Ruthie Thomas, Joe & Stephanie Elliott, Mike Abrams, Betty Stripling, Wanda Moore, Annette Watkins, Billy & Mattie Ruth Rogers, Martha Moore Huffman and the staff of Hunter Creek Health and Rehabilitation in Northport, Alabama.
