IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chris
Mordecai
December 30, 1973 – January 3, 2026
Charles Christopher Mordecai, better known as "Punkin," of Millport, Alabama, died January 3, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi.
"Punkin" was born December 30, 1973, in Vernon, Alabama, to Charles Edward Mordecai and Rose Marie Mordecai. He attended South Lamar and graduated from the Class of 1992. He was also a member of Mt. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church.
At the age of 13, Punkin was diagnosed with a brain tumor and received treatment at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Throughout treatment, he never lost his faith and positive attitude. Even after remission and into adulthood, Punkin continued to return to St. Jude to participate in the Life Study Program in hopes of finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Punkin loved hunting, fishing, and being in the woods. He also enjoyed traveling with friends and family and was able to travel to Jamaica and Utah. He loved playing a good game of rook and watching Alabama play football (ROLL TIDE!)
Punkin's family was everything to him; he was always ready to aggravate, play chase, or play a game of hide and seek with the kids. He loved to ride the roads with Mawaw. Even though he was a mama's boy, he loved to go fishing with his daddy. The loves of his life were his nieces Zoey and Sadie, and his buddy Little Nate.
Punkin will forever be loved and remembered for his contagious, cheerful spirit and his unconditional love for family and friends. Even though we grieve Punkin, we find peace in knowing he is completely healed and in the Arms of the Lord.
Services will be on January 7th with visitation from 11-1, with the funeral at 1 pm at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL. A graveside service will follow at Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Funderburk, Craig Funderburk, Brad Williams, Marc Smith, James Compton, Danny Holmes, Josh Kelley, and Robert House
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Marie Mordecai; sister Kristy (Cody) Sudduth. Neices Zoey Flye and Sadie Sudduth
He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents John and Rosie (Kelley) Mordecai, maternal grandparents Floyd Fowler, AC and Adell (Beard) Scarbrough.
