Obituary

Clinton Leo "Red" Freeman (89), of Millport, AL, passed away in the comfort of his home on May 31, 2023.

Red was born on March 29, 1934, to Fletcher and Abbie Freeman in Lamar County, AL. He played football throughout high school and was a 1953 graduate of Millport High School. After earning his associate degree, Red married his high school sweetheart, Louise "Lucy" Turner. He served his country diligently, traveling as far as Georgia during his time in the Military Police Corps. Red spent forty years with Bosch (United Technology) in Columbus, MS, before retiring to pursue his work as a cattleman.


Red is survived by his wife Louise (Turner), his son Gary, daughter-in-law Malin (Harris), and two grandchildren, Ashlynn McCain and Tucker Freeman. He also leaves behind a multitude of nephews and nieces. Red is preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Abbie Freeman, and his sister, Doris Hoover of Charlotte, North Carolina.


Red was known for being a hard worker and a crafty businessman, but he will be remembered most for his giving heart and quick sense of humor.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL. with Bro. Jeff Morrison officiating. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Millport City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jim Rich, Jason Rich, Gene Dawkins, Terry Bowles, Mike Daffron and Terry Turner.
