Mr. Danny Paul Shackelford, age 73, of Kennedy, AL, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, in Millport, AL. Services will be Monday, November 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL. with Bro. Ed Nabors and Bro Ricky McGee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel. A graveside will follow at Meadow Branch Cemetery in Kennedy, AL.

Mr. Shackelford was born October 20, 1948, in Vernon, AL. He loved living life and enjoyed having fun while doing it. Danny was a Vietnam War Veteran with the United States Army. He later began working at the Millport Garment Plant as their Head Mechanic, where he worked for 15+ years. He also announced for the River Road and Bottoms Up Mud Races throughout the late 80's and into the 90's. He later became a truck driver for Glasgow Trucking and years later he retired with Eskridge Trucking. After retirement he lived out his passion, which was preparing Sunday dinners for his family and feeding anyone that would let him feed them. He LOVED to cook and visit in his "Dog House". If you spent only five minutes there with him you would've seen his smile and he would've tried his best to see yours. He always stated that he LOVED life and LOVED his family.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Shackelford, one daughter, Nickey Gurley (Michael) of Bankston, AL. two sons, Ronnie (Jessica) Thomas of Vicksburg, MS, James (Cecilia) Shackelford of Vernon, AL. Grandchildren include, Cindy (Alex) Perkins, Alexis (Henry) Robak, Allissa (Andrew) Stanford, Sidney (Ashley) Vice, Jonathan Berryhill, Austin Berryhill, Ryan Eiynck, Kaylie Shackelford, Tucker Shackelford, Kera Shackelford, Amelia Adams, Jesse Belk and Cierra Lahr. He had six great grandchildren with two more on the way. Siblings, Bobby (Elaine) Shackelford, Bethel Remea and Tina (Phillip) Lucas and a host of nieces and nephews. He also had a very special caregiver, his father-in-law, Avon Rushing.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, LE (Monk) Shackelford and Mildred Shackelford. Sisters, Betty Umbers, Edith Bright, Linda Crosby and Penny Brom. Brother, Glen Shackelford and two infant brothers.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Godsey, Jody Godsey, Ernest Murphy Jr., Alex Perkins, Henry Robak, Andrew Stanford and Zane Shackelford. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Gilliam, Chris Gilliam, Austin Gilliam, Zach Gilliam, Kent Moore, Shawn Trull, Dr. William Davis, The VA and friends and a special thank you to Encompass Home Health.
