Denny Ray Johnson went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 12, 2021. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL. with Bro. John Jenkins officiating assisted by Tim Johnson. Visitation will be from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Millport, AL.

He was born to Coy and Naoma Johnson on September 6, 1941, in Lamar County, Alabama. Denny Ray was welcomed into a family of three by sister Janice, and was later joined by his three siblings, Judy, Roger, and Sammy all of which he dearly loved.

After graduating from Lamar County High School in 1959, Denny Ray would go on to work for the United States Postal Service for 32 years where his diligent work ethic proved to provide well for his family.

Denny Ray met his wife, Theresa Newell, in 1963 at the Russell skating rink in Millport, Alabama. They began their 57-year long marriage on July 3, 1964, and had two children, Tammy and Tim. In 1989, he earned the title "Papa" and would wear that title very well as he won the hearts of all his 9 grandkids and 3 great grands. His calm demeanor and gentle spirit were always present exemplifying his faith and deep spiritual values. His Godly nature not only marked his family, but would overflow to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Janice Barnes and brother Roger Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Theresa, a daughter, Tammy Johnson, a son, Tim Johnson (Trish), a sister, Judy Mayers and brother Sammy Johnson along with nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Trent Hall, Colin Johnson, Ty Johnson, Jake Shackelford, Jackson Shackelford and John David Shackelford.
