Doris Robinson, 95, of Millport, AL, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on December 12, 2022. Funeral services will be Friday, December 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Parrish officiating and Bro. Matthew Fancher assisting. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Millport City Cemetery under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home.

Doris was born in Lamar County to George W. Simmons and Dulce Elaine Billingsley Simmons on September 24,1927. She married her childhood sweetheart Willard Robinson on December 15, 1946, in Birmingham, AL. She graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, AL. Doris excelled in school and worked two jobs while still in high school. She had a passion for clothing which led her to work as a retail clothing associate. She also was skilled in shorthand, which landed her a job as a secretary with Protective Life Insurance Agency. After marrying Willard, Doris worked at R.F. Odom and Sons where she continued her retail sales of clothing and various merchandise. The family-owned R.F. Odom and Sons (which was the 1940-1950s local Walmart), providing Millport with all of their home needs.

Doris taught Sunday school at Propst Memorial Methodist Church of Millport. She was an active member for years by devoting her time to children and by hosting numerous wedding and baby showers over the years. She also was the local girl scout leader for many years. She nurtured young ladies and planned many activities for them that have made life-long memories for so many. She was also the room mother for both Carolyn and Dale throughout their elementary and high school years. If the classes needed anything, Doris made sure they got it.

Doris and Willard opened up their home and welcomed everyone. Her staple saying was "Get in the Kitchen." Their home was a safe place for all of the young people to "hang-out." Lots of memories and "pickin and grinin" were made in their basement.

Doris became "Mamaw" to her family and friends when she was 45 years old. Mamaw loved her "stories" and could tell you anything you wanted to know about Victor Newman or how many times he had died and came back to life. She also was famous for her Mary Ball fudge that she made every Christmas and delivered all around town. Mamaw also welcomed friends and family to her beach house for decades. She loved the beach and loved to entertain. Her hands made so many meals that she graciously shared with others. She was a giver! If you left her house, you would leave with something- that was Mamaw. She loved visiting and most of all "talking and talking and talking". She always had a smile and continued to smile and laugh until the day the Lord called her home. Mamaw loved her church and church family at Springhill Baptist Church. She was an inspiration to so many and still actively attended Sunday School and church until she was 93 years old. She had so many friends in her lifetime. Her dearest friends were her "Golden Girls", Linda Broadbent, Emily Shaw and Joan Patrick. These ladies made so may happy memories together.

There are no words to express the gratitude that the family has for Linda Broadbent. A true angel on earth, who loved and cared for Mamaw like her very own. The family is forever grateful for your love and devotion to our precious Mamaw.  A special thanks to Charlotte Ford, Elaine Luther, Rhonda Stokes and Beverly Neal for caring for Mamaw these last couple of years.

Doris is survived by her son, Dale Robinson (Susan), her daughter, Carolyn Robinson, grandchildren Nicki Lamb (Neal), Barry Wilson (Summer), and Robby Robinson (Sandy). Great-grandchildren, Trent Wilson (Chelsae), Colton Lamb, Carley Lamb, Taylor Robinson, Caroline Wilson, Dax Wilson, Drake Wilson and great great-grandson Wynn Wilson. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willard Robinson, and a sister, Helen Logan.
