Douglas Rector, 80, of Millport, AL, passed away July 7, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL. with Bro. Melvin Mordecai officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Internment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Millport, AL.

Douglas was born on September 18, 1942 to Martin and Annie Rector in Lowndes County, Mississippi. He was a master electrician and taught at McKeller Technology Center in Columbus, Mississippi. He was a Master Sargeant in the US Army and wrote curriculum for chemical warfare education for the U.S. Army Reserves in Huntsville, AL. Doug was a member of Millport Baptist Church and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed Alabama football, hunting, fishing and his puppy Zoey. He loved watching his grandchildren march in the band, playing with Brantley (the Tasmanian devil, as he called him) and aggravating Mallory about being from Gordo. He loved Jesus and wanted to go home to see him.

Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jane Wilson and brothers, Riley and Clayton Rector. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rector, daughters, Jennifer Madison (Jeff) and Brandi Rector (Blake Gray), a sister, Joyce Varnon, brother Jerome Rector and four grandchildren, Pressley Madison, Lucey Madison, Brantley Gray and Mallory Gray.

Pallbearers will be Steve Logan, Mike Logan, Dale McNees, Don McNees, Dale Gartman and Danny Hutcherson.
