Earnest Barton, Jr., 83, of Ethelsville, AL passed away at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Earnest loved gardening and especially loved cutting his grass. He loved Alabama football and Southern gospel music and was a great fan of the "old red hymnbook". He loved to play the guitar and regularly played for the residents at the Arrington Assisted Living facility in Columbus, MS. He was a member of Ethelsville Baptist Church. Earnest's greatest love was reserved for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved those babies with all his heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earnest B. Barton, Sr. and Tessie (Hester) Barton, his wife Nellie Faye Barton, a sister, Clarice Brown and four brothers, William, Charlie, Alfred and Woodrow Barton.

He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Peterson (Herbert) and Teri Atkins (Mark McGarity), a brother, Eugene Barton (Ann), five grandchildren, Lindsey Atkins (Jake Findley), Larry Atkins, Jr. (Laura), Lance Atkins, Rebekah Peterson (Dylan Davis), Hannah Peterson (A.J. Yearby) and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen cremation and will have a memorial service on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Ethelsville Baptist Church with Bro. Mel Howton officiating.
