Obituary

Franklin Delano McDaniel, 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18, 2019, from 10-11 AM at Steens Church of Christ and the funeral will follow at 11 AM with Bro. Sonny McLellan officiating. He will be assisted by Bro. Tim Gentle. Graveside services will immediately follow at Millport City Cemetery in Millport, AL.

Mr. McDaniel was born July 5, 1935, in Lamar County, AL to the late Colbert "Cub" Lamar McDaniel and Mary Kate Klutts McDaniel. He was a member of Steens Church of Christ, for 60 years, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and song leader. He graduated from Millport High School in 1954, where he played quarterback and was inducted into the Millport Sports Hall of Fame. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC, where he served in the 92 nd Engineering Battalion. After returning from the Army, he worked at American Bosch as a machinist for 37 years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed Alabama football, woodworking, cooking (his specialty chicken and dumplings and fried apple pies), coaching little league football for the city of Columbus, and traveling to several countries and all 50 states.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers - Bibb McDaniel, Preston McDaniel, and Petey McDaniel and sister - Emmer Jean Black.

He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Patsy Lockhart McDaniel; his son Ronnie (Lisa) McDaniel of Columbus, MS; his daughter Holly (Jeff) Church of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Sarah (Ryan) Lloyd of Columbus, MS, Victoria McDaniel (fiancé Anthony Sharp) of Columbus, MS, Connor Church and Carson Church of Birmingham, AL.

Pallbearers will be Bill Black, Phillip Black, Kenny Wayne McDaniel, Ray McDaniel, Connor Church, Carson Church, Ryan Lloyd, and Anthony Sharp. Honorary pallbearers will be Wanda Ray, Harold and Linda Speed, R.C. and Jolene Reich, Bobby and Betty Hudson, Gordy and Wynell Koenigsberger, Steve and Marsha Ward, J.M. Hawkins, Cary Hudson, Steve Logan, Murray James, Chris Hamm, David Forrester, Dr. Brett Brown, Dr. Eric Wallace, Dr. Cameron Huxford, Dr. Robert Howland, critical care unit nurses at Baptist Memorial Hospital, cardiac care unit nurses at UAB, and members of the Steens Church of Christ.
