It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Freddie Maddox, age 78, of Millport, Alabama. Freddie passed away in his home surrounded by his children. While we are heartbroken, we know he was reunited with his wife, Jo Ann of 37 years, who he deeply loved and cherished. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Alabama with Bro. Nick Cannady officiating. Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 p.m. in the chapel. A graveside service will follow at Oakes Chapel Cemetery in Vernon, Alabama.

Freddie was born in Fayette, Alabama on September 30, 1944 to William Leamon and Exie Mae (South) Maddox . A generally self-made man, he worked as a tool and dye maker for 50 plus years. When Freddie wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and spent countless hours working in his garden, which gave him great joy. Whether it be throwing the ball in the backyard, reading a book, going to school functions, going to beauty pageants, riding them on his tractor or giving them life lessons, "Papaw" would do anything for his "little buddies".

His passing is preceded by his parents, his loving wife Jo Ann, a sister, Nellie Sue Foster and brothers Louie, Hershel and Neal Maddox.

He is survived by his three children, Melinda Manee (Guion), Summertown, TN., Karen McCarra (Bryan), Millport, AL and Frederick Maddox, Vernon, AL., a sister, Barbara Stiles, grandchildren Jonathan Fitzgerald, Mason McCord, Hannah Grace Fitzgerald, Madison McCord and Landon McCarra and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be   Jonathan Fitzgerald, Mason McCord, Landon McCarra, Scott Foster, Shane Foster, Randal Price, Tyler Kilgore, Chris White and Robbie Lawson.
