Gene Richards, 81, of Millport, AL. passed away on April 5, 2023 at his residence. Funeral services will be Friday, April 7, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will follow at Millport City Cemetery.

Gene was born on November 19, 1941 in Millport, Alabama to Houston and Bertha (McDaniel) Richards. Gene loved to fool with animals. He had horses, chickens, goat and could take care of them when they were sick. He loved his dogs "Little Man" and "Lulu" best. He loved sitting out in his swings under the trees and watch cars go up and down the road. Gene loved for people to stop by to sit and talk with him or try and trade him out of one of the items he kept around. He liked to tell stories and the longer he talked, the bigger the story became.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Tim "Hot Rod" Richards. He is survived by three daughters, Joy Murphy (Melvin), Jan McCullough (Wade), and Jeanie Kemp (Mike) and a brother, Jimmy Richards (Caryl), grandchildren Lindsey Pierce, Taylor Murphy, Judd Murphy, Josh Kemp, Jessie Long, J.J. Baswell, Jamie Baswell and Lacie McCluskey, 13 great-grandchildren and his two beloved dogs.

Pallbearers are Taylor Murphy, Judd Murphy, J.J. Baswell, Mark Jordan, Terry Snider and Daniel Fields.
