Obituary

Mr. Harry Davis Gartman, 89 of Millport, Alabama died on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi.

Born Thursday, February 13, 1930 to the late Mr. Ed Gartman and Mrs. Pearl Oakes Gartman he was raised in the red clay hills of Lamar County Alabama. He graduated from Millport High School and married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Moore, in 1950. She passed away in 1962, leaving Harry to raise 3 small children.

Harry was an auto mechanic and later a diesel mechanic until the late 1960's. He made a complete career change and started selling insurance for Life Of Georgia. After almost 20 years he retired and married Alberta Mann. They divided their time living in his home in Ft. Walton Beach FL. and her home in Aberdeen MS. They spent many happy years together, traveling and visiting with their families. Harry was also a Shriner and enjoyed transporting children to the Shriner's Hospital in New Orleans.

Harry returned to the "Old Home Place" in Mud Creek around 1990. He became known throughout the area as the "man who fixes clocks". He spent the remaining years in the "country", enjoying visits from his family and the company of his his faithful dog, "Sport".

He was fun-loving, a hard worker and a shrewd trader.

He had many setbacks in life which he overcame with a positive attitude and perseverance.

He passed away surrounded by family and will be greatly missed.

Preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gartman and wives Mrs. Virginia Moore Gartman and Mrs. Alberta Mann Gartman, brother, Billy Gartman, sister, Eddye Pearl Gartman Cash.

He was a member of Milllport Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, James Harry Gartman,Columbus MS, daughters, Kathy Gartman Honeycutt (Barry) Columbus MS., and Ruthanne Gartman Bowles (Larry) Tullahoma TN. brother, James B. Gartman Pensacola FL. sister, Martha Gartman Keplinger, Huntsville AL. 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Dowdle Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Dowdle Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Officiating will be Bro. David Honeycutt.

Pallbearers will be men's Sunday school class, Millport Baptist Church.
