Obituary

Herman McManus, 100, of Millport, AL, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at his residence. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church, 503 Springhill Rd., Millport, Alabama with Bro. Andy Parrish officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with burial following the service at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home.

Herman was born in Millport, Alabama on July 23, 1925 to the late J.V. McManus and Nannie Lee (McCullough) McManus. He worked at Seminole Manufacturing Company in Columbus, Mississippi for over 30 years, then moved to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee to work before retiring to his home in Millport. Everyone who knew him knew that he loved the outdoors and stayed outside as much as possible. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his precious wife, Jean McManus, his parents, and his only sister, Frances Spruill.

Herman is survived by three children, Carolyn Stokes (Kellon) of Mt. Juliet Tennessee, Janice Whitaker (Darrell) of Vernon, Alabama and Gary McManus (Barbara) of Millport, Alabama.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kevin Stokes, Kim Stokes Hawley, Jen McManus Newman (Matt), Josh McManus (Ree), Kelly Whitaker Parks (Todd), Caleb Whitaker (Leah), fifteen great-grandchildren, Zach Stokes (Abigail), Nick Stokes, Aly Hercules (Cam), Jorgen Hawley, Mattie Newman Jones (Brady), Emma Newman, Nealy McManus, Gra McManus, Tripp McManus, Grace Parks, Troy Parks, Layla Parks, Lilly Parks, Ruby Jean Whitaker, Tula Whitaker, Major Whitaker and two great-great grandchildren, Selah Gray Jones and baby Hercules on the way.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Stokes, Jorgen Hawley, Caleb Whitaker, Terry Fields, Josh McManus and Matt Newman.

The family would life to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Alabama Hospice of Jasper and Rhonda Stokes for their wonderful care of Papa.
