Jack Edward (Eddie) Propst, Jr., 77, of Kennedy, AL. died peacefully on August 15,2023 at UAB Hosptial in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Alabama with Bro. Keith Martin and Bro. Jordan Lollar officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will follow at Unity Grove Cemetery in Palmetto, Alabama under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home.
Eddie was born November 19,1945 in Columbus, MS to Jack E. Propst, Sr. and Grace Poole Propst. After graduating from Phillips High School in 1963, he went on to study at the University of Alabama where he played defensive back from 1964-1967 for Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. He played baseball as well and was drafted into the Major Baseball League by the San Diego Padres. In his earlier years, he was in truck management and sales and real estate but for the past 32 years, he and his wife, Glenda, were owners of Redmont Auction and Land Company. He held auctions far and wide and was known for his auctioneer skills. His hobbies included Alabama football, quail hunting, horses, raising English setters and judging field trails.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a step-daughter Deborah Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Propst, daughters, Stacie Propst, Birmingham, AL., Ingrid Propst (Paul), Lovingston, VA and Cynthia Propst Raulston Clark (Chris), Birmingham, AL., a step-son, Mike Robinson (Aimie), Cullman, AL. a sister, Gwendolyn Propst, Gatlinburg,TN., brother Stewart Propst, Kennedy, AL. a nephew, Adrian Watson (Bobbi), Gatlinburg, TN. and niece, Sharlon Watson Marshall (Ronnie) Myrtle Beach, SC., five grandchildren and 9 great-granchildren.
Pallbearers are Jacob Elmore, Colton Turner, Kenny Colvin, Brody Colvin, Adrian Watson and William Raulston.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in Eddie's honor to Helmets for Christ, P O Box 35042, Centreville, AL 35042
