James "Fred" Bryant, 89, of Millport Al., passed away July 19, 2018, at DCH Medical Center of Tuscaloosa AL.
Fred Bryant was born July 1st, 1929, to the late Joe Bryant and Eva McGee Bryant and was the husband of the late Mary Ovella Burgess Bryant. Fred was a long-time member and deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He was in the U.S. Army Signal Corp, serving as a pole lineman in the Construction Battalion during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
He retired as a factory clerk from United Technologies in Columbus, Mississippi. He worked there for 35 years.
He is survived by his son, Chris Bryant (Dawn), daughter, Veronica West (Samuel) and sister, Gail Fields (Waymon), grandchildren, Jacob West (Hannah), Thomas West (Cheyanne), Catherine Huff (Michael), Jackson Bryant, Noah Bryant, and great grandchildren, Elaina West, Cali Lewis, Ben West, Micah West, and Savannah West.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Bryant and Eva Bryant, his wife, Mary Ovella Bryant, brothers, Pascal Bryant, Floyd Bryant, Erbie Bryant, and Morris Bryant; sisters, Nettie Bea Ballinger, Eunice Winters, Opal Canterbury, and Mavis Byrd.
The funeral service will be Sunday July 22, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home. The visitation will be on Sunday July 22 from 3:00 PM - 4:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Bryant, Danleigh Bryant, Jackson Bryant, Keith Bryant, Mark Bryant, Noah Bryant, David Pennington and Jacob West.
Elder Samuel West and Bro. John Williams will be officiating the service.
Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
