James Cleon Porter, age 89 of Kennedy AL died Saturday March 28 at Fayette Medical Center in Fayette AL. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Dowdle Funeral Home, Millport, AL. Services will be held Tuesday March 31st at 2 pm in the Dowdle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Jeff long and Terry Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Higdon Church Cemetery, in Kennedy, AL. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Mr. Porter was born January 30, 1926 in Kennedy, AL to the late Pirvy and Hattie Mae Aldridge Porter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Vannie Lee Baswell Porter, daughter, Carolyn Davis, brothers, Clayton and Junior Porter and sister Annie Merle Porter.
He is survived by his daughter, Regina Strickland of Columbus, MS, son James Porter Jr., of Kennedy, AL; grandchildren Georgianna Cargile, Phillip Davis, Michael Berry Davis, Ashley Wayne Cargile; great grandchildren Joshua Hauerwas, Dillon and Aaron Cargile, Collin, Corey, and Carley Davis; great-great grandchild Campton Maverick Hauerwas; sisters Alice Hudgins and Frances Parker and brother Floyd Porter.
Mr. Porter farmed, cut timber, and retired from United Technologies after 30 years of service.
Pallbearers are Gary Stripling, Joshua Hauerwas, Justin Hauerwas, Dillon Cargile, Collin Davis, Berry Davis, and Ashley Cargile.
