James Cleon Porter Jr., 72, of Kennedy, AL, left to be with the Lord on Friday, April 17, 2026, at his residence. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Higdon Church of God Cemetery in Kennedy, AL.

James was born in Fayette, Alabama on May 28, 1953, to the late Lames Cleon Porter Sr. and Vannie Lee Baswell Porter. He worked many years as a welder and a truck driver. In later years, he was employed by Doug and Jeff Long. James' greatest talent was hunting and he was the best. James was a loving brother and son. He left behind his loving friend and partner of 12 years, Carol Furr.

He is survived by his sister, Regina Porter Strickland; nephews, Barry Davis, Phillip Davis, Ashley Cargile, and niece, Georgianna Cargile.

A very special thanks goes to Mary Long and Barry Davis, who helped James in every way possible, and to his kind and generous neighbors.
