Mr. John Robert Mize, Jr., age 62, of Millport died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

The funeral service will be Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Dowdle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Millport City Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.

Mr. Mize was born October 22, 1951 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the son of the late Dr. John R. and Marilyn Woods Mize, Sr. He attended Millport High School and Graduated from Tennessee Military Institute before enlisting in the U. S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, served in the USAF Reserve and worked at Keesler Air Force Base with Ingalls Shipbuilding. He was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration in Alaska, where he also ran a charter boat service before retiring and returning to Millport.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Derenda Gail Johnson Mize and one sister, Melody Mize Peters, both of Millport, Alabama.

Active pallbearers are: Robert Towery,Joseph Callahan, David Dutter, Lance Hildreth, Wayne Hildreth, Andrew Lewis, Ricky Owens, Bill Wagner and George Young.
