Joyce Hill Hester, 86, passed away on April 13, 2021 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Al. Graveside services for family and friends will be Friday, April 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenhill Memorial Gardens in Reform, Alabama with Bro. Larry Shelton officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home.
Joyce was born May 29, 1934 to Webb C. and Essie Fowler Hill in Jackson County, Alabama. She graduated from Scottsboro High School, Alabama College for Women (University of Montevallo) and obtained graduate degrees from the University of Alabama. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years and included jobs at Eutaw High School, Pickens County High School, Pickens Academy and Central High School where she taught mathematics and all science classes. She had a passion for reading and knew she wanted to be a teacher from an early age. She constantly tutored students and was always a willing sponsor for various school organizations.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved spending time with her great-grandchildren. She loved to travel, research her genealogy and she remained current on most topics of interest. Her main wish was for her family to be followers of Jesus Christ. She counted it her responsibility to give her family the tools to live happy and productive lives and she gave 100% to every task she undertook. She will be missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Hester, grandson Brad Samuel Bobo, brothers Howard Hill and Webb Hill, sisters Roxa Rheams, Thelma Prince and Mary Cook. Joyce is survived by daughters Brenda Bobo (Darrell) and Donna Rogers. Grandchildren include Jill Rogers Christian (Joshua), Jake Rogers and Russ Rogers. Great-grandchildren Riley Rogers, Elliot Christian, Regan Rogers and Jesse Christian.
