IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry
Savage
September 17, 1941 – April 21, 2025
Lawrence Shirley "Larry" Savage, age 83, passed away on April 21, 2025, in Columbus, Mississippi. Born on September 17, 1941, in Kennedy, Alabama to Fred and Yvlette Davis Savage, Larry lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Larry graduated from Kennedy High School in 1959 and went on to attend the University of Alabama for a couple of years. In 1961, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. Stationed in Germany as a Radio Intercept Analysis Specialist, he served honorably until 1964 and left the military with the rank of E4.
Following his military service, Larry began a long and successful career with CB&I (Chicago Bridge & Iron Company), where he worked as a welding superintendent. Over the course of 35 years with the company, he earned the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic and leadership.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry was known for his warmth and generosity. He was a kind and loving brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His daughter Kim Boyett (William) brought him great pride and joy throughout his life. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren Samantha Cantrell and Zachary Cantrell and found special delight in watching his great-grandchildren—Sheri Cantrell, Addison Gwin, Luna McCullough, and Lukas McCullough—grow up.
Larry shared a close bond with his brothers Donald Savage (Judy) and Fred Ray Savage (Brenda), as well as with his beloved nieces and nephew. His extended family of great-nieces and a great-nephew also held a special place in his heart.
In retirement, Larry embraced hobbies that reflected both relaxation and curiosity. A passionate collector of many things over the years, he found joy in discovering new treasures. Saturdays in the fall were reserved for cheering on his favorite football team—the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Dowdle Funeral Home located at 270 McAdams St., Millport, Alabama 35576. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Larry's legacy lives on through those who knew him best—his family members who loved him dearly and friends who valued his companionship. May his memory bring comfort to all whose lives he touched.
