Marie Wharton Nabors, 95, passed away on July 7, 2025 in Columbus, MS. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Millport City Cemetery in Millport, AL. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL.

Marie was born September 28, 1929 to John C Wharton and Mamie Wharton in Pickens County, AL. She lived all her life in Pickens and Lamar County, where she grew up during the depression. She said that no matter how bad things were, they always had plenty to eat, thanks to her father. She was a member of Millport Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Marie married her life partner, Doyce W. Nabors in 1951 and they were married for 60 years. They had three children, Gary Nabors (Sandra), Janice Bittle (Randy) and a son, Arnold Nabors, who died as an infant.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doyce, sister Evelyn Shaw and sisters-in-law Catherine Nabors and Murel N. Cunningham.

Marie is survived by her children, Gary and Janice, five grandchildren, Sonya Price, Dennis Bittle (Missy), Justin Bittle (Carla), Lisa E. Sutton and Tracy Rich (Jim). She is also survived by brothers-in-law Copeland, Jerry L and Larry W Nabors along with numerous nieces and nephews.
