Obituary

Roy Max Bobbitt, age 86 of Millport, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. The visitation will be held at Springhill Baptist Church in Millport, AL. on Thursday February 15, 2024, from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be February 16, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church with viewing one hour prior to the service under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home. There will be no graveside service.

Roy Max Bobbitt was born in Lamar County on November 18, 1937. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1957. He was married to his beloved wife Martha Blakeney Bobbitt for 65 years. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. He loved God. He surrendered to the call of the gospel ministry on April the 12th at Springhill Baptist Church during the spring revival. The following night he was licensed by Springhill Baptist Church to The Gospel Ministry. He was a pastor for 37 years, pastoring Friendship South Baptist, Mt. Zion Baptist, Fernbank Baptist, Fellowship Baptist of Reform, Spring Hill Baptist of Northport, Academy Baptist, and Hickory Grove Baptist. He retired in December of 2000 but continued as an interim pastor for Lamar and Fayette County. His led a gospel singing group Under His Wings.

Mr. Bobbitt was a hardworking man and loved people. Outside of pastoring he worked numerous jobs, including a produce manager for A&P Tea Co, sales representative for Spruill's Auto Supply, District 4 Lamar Co, and Dowdle Funeral Home.

He loved the outdoors junking, gardening, and fishing. He loved bowling. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends whom he loved so dearly.

Mr. Roy Max Bobbitt is preceded in death by his parents; F.O. and Maudie Jane Bobbitt, sisters; Willie Bee Swink, Lillie Jay Woolbright, Velina Gann, Olivia Johnson, brothers; Leon and David Bobbitt.

He is survived by his wife; Martha Blakeney Bobbitt of Millport AL, children; Terry (Emma) Bobbitt of Rogersville AL, Tim (Karon) Bobbitt of Vernon AL, Tammy (Dennis) Parker of Millport AL, grandchildren; Kasey (Seth) Morris of Northport AL, Skye (Joseph) Hurt of Millport AL, Blake (Colton) Hill of Rogersville AL, Lance (Laura) Bobbitt Vernon AL, Hank (Sidney) Parker of Millport AL and Keeli (Bradley) Prescott of Winfield AL, great-grandchildren; Rollins Morris, Barrett Hill, Parker Lane Hurt, Canaan Morris, Grace Anne Bobbitt, Gwen Hill, Olivia Hurt, Hollis Hill, Stella Parker and baby Prescott and a brother, Mark Bobbitt (Beedie) of Millport, AL.

Pallbearers include Lance Bobbitt, Hank Parker, Joseph Hurt, Seth Morris, Colton Hill, and Bradley Prescott.

Honorary pallbearers include Dennis Parker, Danny Blakeney, Jerry Blakeney, Coley Blakeney, Barry Wilson, Trent Wilson, Terry Fields, David Shaw, Springhill Baptist Mens Sunday School Class, Springhill Baptist Choir, Dr. Robert Neil Honea and Enhabit Hospice.
