Obituary

Milton Max Junkins, a lifelong resident of Kennedy Alabama, was called home by the good Lord on December 13, 2022, at his home. He was 68 years old. The family will receive friends at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Alabama on January 3 rd at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on the same day, in the same location with Rev. Terry McAdams officiating.

Known by friends and family as "Max", he was born March 1, 1954, in Fayette County Alabama to Lynwood and Mary Nell Junkins (nee' Cooper) who preceded him in death.

Max graduated from Kennedy High School where he was a four-year letterman in football and baseball. As a student Max actively participated in 4H and achieved the FFA degree of American Farmer which is the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization. He worked as a professional truck driver and mechanic while also farming and raising cattle. Max was a member of Kennedy Masonic Lodge #467 and was also a Shriner. He was a lifelong member of the Kennedy United Methodist Church and attended Mount Tabor Church.

Max had a passion for being on the move and using his hands. A hard worker, he also had a brilliant technical mind for all things mechanical. Along with his natural talent for mechanics, he had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing guitar. Max had a curiosity about the world which was displayed by his love of visiting new places and making friends.  A loyal friend, Max would give anything he had to a friend in need. Additionally, he enjoyed sports, especially football and his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. Max loved nothing so much as his family who will mourn his loss yet cherish every memory of his wisdom, humor, and tenderness.

As far and wide as his curious nature may have taken him, for Max there was no place like home and the land of his birth. Max was a child of the dark soil, red clay, and tall pines of west Alabama. Now, like his father and grandfathers before him, his body is returned to that soil, joining the blood, sweat and tears that preceded it. Max lived and died where he was most content, and now rests in peace beside his parents. He is home.

"I am a part of all that I have met." -Alfred Lord Tennyson, Ulysses

Max is survived by his sister Vicky Killen (Jack) of Tuscaloosa, children Shannon Ratliff (Shaun) of Goose Creek, SC, Derek Davis (Jamie) of Smith's Grove, KY, and nephew Tim Killen of Tuscaloosa. He also leaves behind four beautiful grandchildren and two great nephews that he adored as well as several dear cousins. His friends are far too numerous to list yet he cherished each of them dearly.

The family would like to express their personal thanks to the friends and neighbors whose thoughtfulness and care brought so much pleasure to Max's existence, enabling him to live out his life in the home where he was raised. Mere words could never suffice to convey the depths of our gratitude to each one of you. Nevertheless, thank you all so very much.

"For the Christian, death also involves anticipation of new beginnings. We let go bodies that have served us, not perfectly but well enough in exchange for new bodies. We let go a known life, touched with grace and pleasure but also evil and pain in exchange for the promise of a life perfected. We let go the muddle of doctrine and wavering faith in exchange for sure knowledge at last. And during the rest of life, we prepare for that exchange." -Phillip Yancy, Author
