IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Pennington
June 20, 1945 – December 31, 2020
Robert Clifton Pennington (75) from Millport, Alabama passed from this life to his heavenly home on the morning of December 31, 2020 at DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There will be a private family viewing at 11:00 a.m. on January 2, 2021 at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Alabama with a graveside service for family and friends afterwards at Millport City Cemetery.
Robert grew up in the Vernon area of Lamar County and moved to Millport when he married Adine "Tootsie" Atkins. He lovingly referred to his bride of 57 years as "Toots" and was a wonderful caregiver to her for the last several years through her health challenges. He also became a great cook and enjoyed cooking for his family. Robert served as a deacon at Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church. He loved his church family and missed it so this past year. Southern gospel music was a favorite pastime he enjoyed, but he especially loved to hear his girls sing. He and his girls travelled and sang for several years together. He was a friend to all he met and generous to a fault. If you came to his home, odds are you left with a mess of turnip greens, a mess of fish, or a full belly - maybe all of the above. With a love of the outdoors, he was a hunter and fisherman. He won a big buck contest with a deer named Kudzu and his girls would be glad to share the story of how they had to travel with Kudzu in the back seat of the car to Montgomery. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing for bass or crappie; however, he was very choosy about his fishing partners and would never share information about his fishing spots.
As a man with skilled hands, Robert worked for State Line Marine, West Construction, and retired from Weyerhaeuser Company in 2005.
Preceded in death by his parents, Sir Clinton and Lula Pennington, and a grandson, Jeb Davis (JD) Richards.
He is survived by his wife Adine "Tootsie" Atkins Pennington; daughters, Tammy (Tim) Fields, Kristy Humber and Tonya (Karey) Richards all of Millport, Alabama; Grandchildren, Whitney (Chuck) Collins, Tyler Fields, Hannah (Tristan) Bradley, and Mary (Justin) Hancock, Karey Beth Richards; Great Grandchildren, Stella Bradley, Harper Lee Collins, and Emmie Hancock. He was looking forward to welcoming a new great grandson, Hayes Collins in March.
