Roger Johnson of Millport, Alabama, passed away on July 1, 2021, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Funeral services will be Monday, July 5, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Dowdle Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Hall officiating and Bro. Drew Moore assisting. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral at 11:00 am. There will be a private, family only graveside service following the funeral. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Millport, AL.

Roger was born on January 22, 1948 to Coy Johnson and Naoma (Robinson) Johnson in Lamar County, Alabama. He worked for 30 years at Beloit Manhattan/ Metso. He was a member of Fernbank Baptist Church. He was loved by so many, especially his family. He was a wonderful husband to his wife and an awesome Dad that loved his children. He was PawPaw and Poppie to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he centered his life around all of them. He loved to golf for many years until he had to give it up. He also loved to work in his yard and spent many hours in it. Roger also loved to bird hunt and he was a true, avid Alabama fan. Roger loved going to church and he truly loved the Lord, and lived his life accordingly.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Gartman Johnson, his daughters Cheryl Lynn (Jeff) Deese, and Susan Lynette (Curtis) Pierce, sister Judy (Ricky) Mayers, brothers Denny Ray (Theresa) Johnson and Samuel Darwin Johnson, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Naoma Pamelia Robinson Johnson and Coy Darwin Johnson, and his sister Janice Marie Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Gartman, J.T. Beard, Roanie Johnson, Terry Robinson, Wayne Robinson, and Ricky Mayers.
