Sammy Johnson, 68, of Millport, AL, passed away at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL, on July 30, 2022. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Alabama with Bro. Terry Robinson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel.  A graveside service will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Millport, AL.

Sammy was born on July 26, 1954 to Coy Darwin Johnson and Naoma (Robinson) Johnson in Columbus, Mississippi. He was a 1972 graduate of Millport High School. He was a very loving, thoughtful person. Sammy never forgot a birthday, whether you were young or old.  He always had a present handy. At Christmas, no one in the family was left out; everyone received a present. He made large candy bags for the younger children and even after the holiday, they always asked for candy from the "Uncle Sammy bag". Sammy enjoyed a good game of golf and he LOVED Alabama football. He also enjoyed the First National Bank travel club. He was an Army veteran and a retired National Guard Recruiter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Denny Ray Johnson (Theresa), Roger Johnson (Rita) and a sister, Janice Marie Barnes.

He is survived by a sister, Judy Ann Mayers (Ricky) of Millport, AL.

Pallbearers are James Barnes, Brandon Hamilton, Phillip Barnes, Brett Mayers, Ben Hydrick and Zack Hydrick.
