Obituary

Shirley Ardean Watkins Fields passed away from this life to her heavenly home on June 27, 2026 at the age of 89 years old. She lived a wonderful life, and was loved by everyone who knew her, and especially by her family and friends.

She was born on October 2nd 1936 near Brownville, Alabama in Tuscaloosa county. She had beautiful curly hair when she was born, so her family named her Shirley, after curly-haired Shirley Temple.

She was born into a large and loving family, and was treasured each moment of her life.

As a child she grew up on the family farm, where they grew corn, and had fruit orchards. They also had many animals on the farm. Shirley loved to tell stories about milking the stubborn cow. She helped her mother gather and can food for the family. She cultivated quite a green thumb for growing things.

Her family moved to Millport in 1960, and there she met the love of her life, Lewie Fields. They were married on Oct 3rd, 1964. On March 31, 1966 they welcomed their only child , Sandra Kay Fields, lovingly named after Lewie’s cousin. Shirley then took on the most important role, being the most loving and caring mother that God ever created.

She always put her family first. She worked tirelessly in the vegetable garden to help provide for her family, and her friends. No one left her house without a basket of vegetables. She loved the beautiful flowers she grew in her garden, especially her 'Joseph's Coat' rose bush, which grew to the size of a car. She was a very talented seamstress, and took in sewing for friends and neighbors. Many times making intricate sequined ball gowns while staying up most of the night to be sure they were absolute perfection. She always made her home a welcome safe haven for family and friends.

She was a faithful member of Mount Pleasant church of Christ in Millport. She was always happy to help out with the church pantry, and her singing voice was a beautiful gift from God. Many always said that she looked and sang like Patsy Cline.

She is preceded in death by her parents Mae Watkins Swann and Robert Swann, her soulmate Lewie Fields, her beloved siblings James Swann, Margaret Swann, and Earl Swann.

She is survived by her daughter Kay Fields Morrison, son in love, Phil Morrison, the lights of her life, her grandsons Alex and Eddie Morrison, her brother Albert Swann (Rita), and brother Larry Swann. And, many treasured nephews and nieces, beloved cousins, and countless friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Alex and Eddie Morrison, and her nephews, whom she loved as if they were her own sons, Danny, Bo, Toby and Bunky Hayes.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Hayes officiating and Phillip Morrison assisting. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Millport City Cemetery.
