IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Troy
Sturdivant
January 12, 1924 – May 25, 2025
A well-known, well lived, centenarian who has contributed to the ever-changing and progressive landscape of our town and community has moved from labor to reward. Brother Troy Sturdivant has spent his entire earthly existence in the Millport/Fernbank Community. At his passing, he was the oldest member of our community, having been recognized by both the Town of Millport on his 100th birthday and Holly Grove Baptist Church. He was born in Fernbank January 12, 1924 to the late Jess Sturdivant and Louise Blaylock Sturdivant. He peacefully entered his rest on May 25, 2025 at his residence in Millport within seconds while conversing with two of his daughters.
A very wise man with a kind and extremely quiet disposition, Mr. Troy was highly respected by all who knew him. Wherever help was needed, he was always ready and willing to share in any way that he could. He never lived further than ten miles from his birthplace. As a child, he expressed hope in Christ and united with Rush Chapel Church in Fernbank where he also attended school.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Daisy Mae Richardson Sturdivant. To this union were born five boys and six girls.
A man dedicated to hard work and supporting his family, his occupational skills carried him from farming with Mr. Clyde Blakely and Mr. Willie G. Watson to cutting pulp wood and logging with Mr. Que Boyette, Mr. Lewie Fields, and others. After retiring from Airline Manufacturing in Columbus, MS, he worked for the Town of Millport doing ground work. He also worked with his son Philip in his ground service doing great work keeping up the yards of many in Millport and Holly Grove Church and cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Daisy, his son Philip, his daughter Olene Bridges, and his grandson Mario Hannah, and all of his siblings: five sisters – Ollie V. Morton, Luberta Brock, Verdell Maddox. Robbie Ogden, and Rosie Lee Prewitt; and four brothers: Roy Sturdivant, Burdett Sturdivant, Bradford Sturdivant, and Sonny Boy Sturdivant. Left to reflect on his outstanding accomplishments and wonderful memories are four sons: Coy ( Jeanette) Sturdivant, Roy Sturdivant, Michael (Josie) Sturdivant, all of Columbus, MS, and Stanley Sturdivant of Millport; six daughters: Annie Sturdivant, Shirley Sturdivant, Rhonda Sturdivant, and Virginia (Johnny) Odom, all of Millport, Barbara Sturdivant of Racine, CA, and Linda Sturdivant of Tuscaloosa; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Holly Grove M.B. Church in Millport, Alabama at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Holly Grove Cemetery in Millport, AL. under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Johnny Odom, Roy Sturdivant, Michael Sturdivant, Clifton Johnson, James Johnson and Ricky Cox.
Honorary Pallbearers are Coy Sturdivant, Billy Fowler, A V Morton, Tony Washington, Darrell Bridges, Willie Hood and Billy Guyton.
