IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayne
Moody
November 28, 1943 – September 9, 2022
Billy Wayne Moody, 78, went on to his heavenly home on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 from his residence peacefully in Kennedy, AL. Funeral services will be Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, AL, with Bro. Johnny House and Bro. Roy Bush officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. A graveside service will follow at Andrews Chapel in Liberty, AL.
Wayne was born November 28, 1943 in Liberty, AL (Pickens Co.) to his parents, Coleman Jefferson Moody and Clera Victoria Logan. He had a love of the outdoors and logged for several years. He also loved the races and reported on them several years for the West Alabama Gazette newspaper where he worked for 19 years. Wayne also wrote a humorous column, "Wayne's World," for many years. He was an avid fisherman and taught many young people all he knew about fishing. He also loved to hunt, until later in life he put down his gun and picked up his camera. He also enjoyed coaching T-Ball and Little League when his children were young. Nothing pleased Wayne more than an "eating" with his entire family, including children, grandchildren and all their friends. All special holidays called for a big pot-luck meal. Any excuse for a family meal was acceptable. Wayne was not only proud of his family, he was also proud of his association with the Heartmen Quartet, who he co-managed with the late Rodney Perrigin. He also served as Music Director at the Millport Church of Nazarene at one time. He was currently a member of Kennedy Methodist. He loved his zero-turn Cadet mower and gardening and could always be found outdoors doing something. Wayne was also a member of three fire departments, Liberty, Kennedy and Millport.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Moody, Kennedy; daughters, Sherry Rivers, Millport and Sonya (Terry) Ritch, Hamilton, AL; daughter-in-law, Benji Moore Moody, Columbus, MS; step-daughter Jenny (Jeff) McBride (Hazel Green) and step-son John-Paul, Kennedy; and brother, Charles Moody (Tuscaloosa); 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Neila House Moody; his parents; his son, Timothy Wayne Moody; son-in-law, James "Mingo" Rivers and a sister-in-law, Shirley Junkins Moody.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jared Rivers, Dakota Rivers, Heath Crowe, Clay Stockman; Joe Vail and Chadd Garnett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tims Dowdle, Bobby Bain, Charles White, Heartman Quartet, and the Liberty, Kennedy and Millport fire departments.
