Wiley Harris Mahan, Ethelsville, AL age 66
Died Saturday November 15, 2014 at Lakeshore Rehab Hospital, in Birmingham, Al after a long illness.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm with Burial in the church cemetery following. The body will lie-in-state at the church from 1:00 – 2:00.
Wiley was born in San Saba, TX on Aug. 25, 1948 to the late Ellis & Sybil Miller Mahan.
Wiley demonstrated humility and strived for excellence in everything he did. After graduating high school in Ochlocknee, GA Wiley owned and operated a service station before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1967. He served his country in Vietnam and a career totaling for 22 years. During that time he earned a bachelors degree from the University of Alabama (1975). After moving from the Pentagon to Dyess AFB (TX) he retired as a Major and opened a small engine repair shop in 1989. He and his family owned and operated Mahan Mower and More in Abilene, TX for 11 years before he actually "retired" in Ethelsville, Alabama. There, he and Linda raised a small tribe of goats on 30 acres of family land he lovingly called Briar Patch Farms. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School, watching Alabama Football, taking care of his goats, and spending time with his family. His dog, Buddy, followed him everywhere he went. He was preceded in death by a brother Ben Mahan
Wiley was a man of God first, a loving husband and dedicated father.
