David Talmadge Lyles, 89, went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2021, at Sansing Country Home for Veterans and was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church in McShan, AL.
A private family service will be held with full Masonic rites at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in McShan, AL. Funeral services will be on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Randy Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in McShan, AL, under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home, Millport, AL.
Mr. Lyles was born March 18, 1932 in McShan, Alabama. He was a 1950 graduate of Pickens County High School and a veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, serving in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) 92 nd and 98 th Bomb Groups and at the 12 th Air Force Headquarters in Germany. After his military service, he worked in the natural gas business in Louisiana and Florida, the construction business in Alabama and Mississippi, and owned his own country store and automotive garage.
Mr. Lyles held leadership positions in the Perry, Florida Jaycee Chapter, the Reform, Alabama Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the McShan Volunteer Fire Department. In addition, he was a Master Mason and a member of Fellowship Lodge Number 172 in Reform, Alabama and, along with his wife, Joyce, were among the founding families of Pickens Academy in Carrollton, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Folsom Lyles, father, James Grady Lyles; his mother, Annie Gardner Lyles, his sisters Doris (Dot) Lowe, Edith Daniels, brothers in-law Emmett Lowe and Alton Lowe, special cousins John R. Jacobs, James E. Jacobs, Donald W. Gardner and William M. Gardner.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Reece (Henry), stepdaughters Tammy Keene (Mike), Tonja Jones (Ken) his son, David G. Lyles (Lori); his sisters Jackie Lowe and Betty Heritage (Edward) and brother in law Billy Daniel, two granddaughters, Elizabeth Reece and Alexa Lyles and numerous other relatives. He is also survived by his best friend of 86 years, William U. "Bill" Duncan.
Masons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Mineral Springs Baptist Church (McShan, AL), Hebron Baptist Church (Carrollton, AL), any US Veteran Support Organization, the Masonic Lodge or Pickens Academy in Carrollton, AL.
